Deletion of Park Assist 2 Feature? [INCORRECT]

VWA just sent out a bulletin to inform us that the Golf 7 will no longer be able to receive the Park Assist 2 function as part of the Driver Assistance Package. The Package is still available, but the feature was discontinued.

Basically, the system can potentially damage the vehicle as well as another inadvertently. If the vehicle in front is a ute or a vehicle with a tray on it, the ultrasonic sensors will be unable to detect the real length of the car in front, causing damage to both cars.

VWA say this is an interim measure as the car software is being reprogrammed right now in Germany to cater for our market and the feature is to be reintroduced in the coming months. Cars built in July, August and potentially September will not have the feature.

In simple terms, they've discovered a series of individuals incapable of operating the brake pedal.

What a load of a$$ covering BS!!

The system explicitly tells you on the MFD to visually make sure you aren't going to hit anything above or below the sensors. There must be some dip$hit$ complaining because they just shove it into the suggested gear and watch the MFD for when to stop.

So, would this also affect other VW models as well? Like the Passat?

Really? You'd think you have to open your eyes and be alert whilst you are using park assist

No, no. The feature will be definitely back in the cars, since the VW is now working on the idiot proof car of the future. They've realized that the world need one, sooner than they've expected.

How hard is it to use the brake and look forwards? Honestly what has our world come to? All I know is that the Golf 7 is affected...

How can you blame them... every manufacturer selling cars will be gun-shy when it comes to potential problems.

I recall a Mercedes Benz being demonstrated on TV where it hit objects. There is nothing to replace the human computer.

Then again, I know that some manufacturers brag that their park assist can park in a space that is just 800 mm longer than their car. Of course this is not in accordance with road rules that require the space you park in to be at least 2 metres longer than your car as you have to ensure you have a gap of 1 m between your vehicle and the one in front as wall as the one behind you.

Basically, you can be fined for failing to maintain the minimum required gap.

Actually reverse parking is very easy once you have worked out the system.

Align your car so that the rear of your vehicle is in line with the rear of the vehicle you are going to park behind.

Move backwards and start turning the wheel to the left.

Keep going until you can see that the right side of your vehicle points to the left front corner of the vehicle behind you in your driver's door mirror.

Straighten the steering wheel and reverse straight until your left door mirror and the right rear corner of the vehicle in front come into alignment with you in the driver's seat.

Keep reversing while turning right until parallel with the kerb.

Move forward or reverse to position yourself correctly.
